XdT: A wine full of tradition and vanguard
Produced in the Rioja Alta zone , the towns, landscapes and buildings that surround XdT show the imprint of history in all its landscapes.
The XdT wine, is dedicated to an illustrious ancestor: Francisco Ximénez de Tejada y Eslava. He was Prince of Malta and Gozo, and LXIX Grand Master of the Knights Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, also known as the Sovereign and Military Order of Malta between 1773 and 1775, the last Spanish Grand Master to date.
After the death of the Spanish Grand Master Ximénez de Tejada, he was named the new Grand Master of the Order of Malta Emmanuel de Rohan. (1775-1797).
After the marriage of Catalina Ramírez de la Piscina y Argaiz with Martín Fernández de Navarrete y Ramírez de la Piscina, the historical legacy of both became located in La Rioja, Spain.
A few years after the death of the LXIX Grand Master of the Order of Malta Francisco Ximénez de Tejada y Eslava, already in the time of King Carlos IV of Spain, Pedro Ximénez de Tejada y Eslava, brother of the last Grand Master, received another title of nobility. to incorporate those who had the family: the title of Marqués de Ximénez de Tejada, for the merits of his brother, the Prince and Grand Master of Malta.
Through Martín Fernández de Navarrete and Ximénez de Tejada, these two family cultural heritages would be united.
XdT intends at the same time to unite the history that its founders treasure, and at the same time to be a modern and innovative element in La Rioja, already in the 21st century.
Thanks to the invaluable help provided by Isabel Fernández de Navarrete and Saénz de Tejada and Victoriano López-Pinto, belonging to the descendants of the Viscount of Villahermosa de Ambite, who contributed the historic building in which XdT began to be made, as well as to the essential oenological knowledge of Bárbara and Antonio Palacios produced unparalleled wines, avant-garde and at the same time valuing the history that XdT represents, and under the care of the vineyards of Miguel Mato father and son, this extremely unique XdT project became a reality .
